Lucky to be alive

Occupants survive uninjured after
residence’s peppered with bullets

TEN people were lucky to escape injury when the home of a “respected” Bankstown family was peppered with bullets late Sunday night. A gunman opened fire on a home in Columbine Avenue, Bankstown, leaving a “respected” family shaken but uninjured last Sunday night.
The search is now on for the shooter who was captured on CCTV firing six shots from the driver’s seat through the open passenger side window of a white Volkswagen Polo hatchback about 10pm.
Five adults and five children who were inside at the time were uninjured.
When police arrived they found broken glass panelling at the front of the home and a number of bullet holes in the front door.
Bankstown Police Commander, Superintendent Adam Johnson, said it was just a matter of luck that no one was injured.
He says the family is obviously quite upset.
“That’s a very distressing thing,” he said.
“It’s reckless, serious criminal behaviour.
“The family are co-operating with us and they’re a respected local family.”
Several residents heard the loud bangs but thought it was fireworks.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Bankstown Police, 9783 2199 or Crime Stoppers, 1800 333 000.
