Lucky escape at home shoot up

SEVERAL people had a lucky escape when a Guildford home was shot up last Wednesday night.

About 11.20pm, police were called to the intersection of Guildford Road and Robertson Street where they located projectile casings and several bullet holes in the front of a nearby house. Luckily those inside were not injured.
A short time later, an abandoned vehicle was found alight on Bennet Road, South Granville.
Crime scenes were established at both locations and forensically examined by specialist police.
Detective Superintendent Paul Devaney, Cumberland Police Area Commander, said it was a targeted attack.
Confirming the house and some of the intended victims were known to police, Supt Devaney said the people inside were not cooperating with police.
“This is a targeted attack,” he said.
“Six adults were in the premises at the time … some of these occupants are known to police.
“Those people are extremely lucky they weren’t seriously injured or killed.”
The shooting comes exactly three weeks to the day after father and son, Toufik and Salim Hamze, were shot and killed while sitting in a parked ute outside a property in Osgood Street, about 1km away.
Police are investigating whether the incidents are linked to an ongoing gangland war.
Appalled by the number gangland style shootings that have taken place, police have warned those involved that they will not tolerate the serious and extreme violence.
