Along with neighbouring councils Blacktown and Parramatta, they helped social enterprise Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) divert 196 tonnes of waste in the 2020/21 financial year.
The waste was diverted through RRA’s Mobile Community Recycling Service (MCRS), a one-of-a-kind Community Recycling Centre (CRC) on wheels. Through the service, customers can safely dispose of common household problem waste including paint, motor oil, cooking oil and batteries, as well as electrical waste including televisions and computers, through the reuse, repair and recycling initiative.
RRA is a national social enterprise that works in waste management to keep waste out of landfill, create jobs for people experiencing barriers to work and to engage and connect people in our communities.
Announcing the result during National Recycling Week 2021 (November 8-14), RRA General Manager Matt Curtis said the community had shown a real commitment to reducing waste through reuse, repair and recycling.
“The thing that makes the MCRS so successful is the connection to the community,” Mr Curtis said.
“The MCRS team works hard to achieve the best results for the community, the environment and our council customers.”
