“I thought if $25 a month restores the sight of an individual, $100 a month will restore the sight of four individuals – and it’s all tax deductible,” she said.
Going a step further, Alison, 66, has now bequeathed a portion of her Will to the foundation and recently increased the amount.
“By leaving a gift to the Fred Hollows Foundation in my Will, I will be helping to train the next generation of eye surgeons and help transform the lives of many of the millions of people living with avoidable blindness,” she said.
“In this way, my legacy will last beyond my lifetime.”
Grandmother of four, Alison said her two children were self-sufficient and were proud to be sharing with their mum this gift of sight to others.
“I strongly encourage anyone who supports the Hollows Foundation to seriously consider leaving a gift in their Will,” she said.
“It leaves a warm and fuzzy feeling to know that folks’ lives will be improved due to my contribution.”
