Inspirational School Captain named a ‘Community Hero’

INSPIRATIONAL School Captain at Bankstown Senior College, Aram Shmoni only migrated from Iraq in 2019 but is already making an impressive impact, having just been named a Dooleys ‘Community Hero’ for his fundraising efforts in the local community as well as those further afield.

He has been distributing groceries to struggling families during Covid, helped raise over $800 for Yemen children at risk due to war, nearly $1,000 to help women in Ethiopia access Fistula treatment and will next pack birthing kits for Zonta International for expectant mothers at risk overseas.
Described as an emerging community leader, his teachers speak highly of him and say he regularly advocates for the needs of the community and young people.
Aram said he was surprised at the recognition.
“I was in shock as I didn’t know I was nominated and still don’t know who was my nominee but I am very grateful for the honour,” he said.
Aiming to study radiography and the diagnostic sciences when he graduates from high school, Aram says he will pursue any field where he can be of service to others.
“I just enjoy helping people and hope to have many more opportunities to do so,” he said.
Dooleys has presented Aram with a $200 eftpos card as a token of appreciation.
