Raise over $9,000 to help replenish kitty after Covid

PADSTOW Community Care (PCC) staff and volunteers have just completed a Spring Exercise Challenge in which 14 of them raised $9,000 to replenish resources after supporting nearly 1,000 residents a month with groceries, meals, bill assistance and counselling during and post lockdown.

The team undertook either swimming, walking, running or cycling during October with the target of 3000km – nearly the same distance between Sydney and Perth.
PCC manager Grant Heslop, whose son Isaac alone cycled 500km for the initiative, said the group was thrilled to hit the target and encouraged each other along the way with shoutouts like, ‘we’re halfway to Perth now’, and collected sponsorship for their health and fitness efforts.
“It’s great that we have raised those funds to put back into our food, bill relief and counselling programs,” he said.
“So many people are doing it tough, we’ve never seen anything like it in the 36 years we’ve been in the community.
“Our resources can only go so far and we also have to start planning ahead of producing 300 Christmas hampers as well as our Christmas lunch where we provide for about 150 locals.”
Any community assistance, no matter how great or small, will go a long way to help.
