Over 25 evacuated in house, unit blazes

MORE than 25 people were evacuated from their homes during two separate fires last week – one which gutted a house in Lidcombe and the other threatened two unit blocks in Guildford before being brought under control by firefighters.

Firies saved several apartments from damage when an electrical transformer burst into flames outside a unit block at Guildford last Monday about 2pm. More than 20 firies battled the blaze to prevent it spreading to nearby buildings.
Almost 20 residents self-evacuated without injury.
Two days later, fire destroyed a home in Lidcombe and while the six occupants were able to escape without injury, the intense blaze caused heat damage to neighbouring properties.
When firies arrived on scene just before 3pm, the home was well alight. They extinguished the fire which had spread from the bedroom into the roof and caused severe fire damage to the home.
Fire and Rescue Superintendent Scott Dodson said it was a timely reminder for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
