Hunt for soccer stars

YOUNG soccer stars are being urged to register for Canterbury Bankstown FC’s Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) with trials starting next week.

A fantastic skills development opportunity, club convenor Eve Nembotakis said it was ideal for talented boys aged nine to 12 years, as well us those trying out for the under 13s.
“These kids eventually go on to play at senior level in the A-league and may even end up in the Socceroos,” she said.
“The coaches are fully trained and participants get to experience a range of techniques; I would certainly encourage any young stars to try out for the program on October 26 and 28, 6-7pm, at Thurina Park in Villawood.”
A representative club coming under the guise of Football NSW, Canterbury Bankstown FC plays in the National Premier League and was one of the first football clubs in Sydney.
The club has also been known as the Canterbury-Marrickville Olympic and West Sydney Berries; the ‘Berry’ part of the name deriving from Canter-‘bury’.
Changing their name to Canterbury Bankstown FC a few years ago but with their success as juicy as ever, the club is looking forward to an early season start in February to make up for this year’s lockdown.
“All of our teams are full and ready to go,” Eve said.
“We’ll have Under 13s-Under 18s, seniors and first grade sides starting training in November, breaking in December and then back into it from January; we’re all so excited to get a full football season underway.”
