Narrow street won’t cope with boarding house

A PLAN which would see two homes in Cameron Street in Lidcombe demolished to make way for a 40-room boarding house, has angered residents who say it will only add to their traffic and parking woes, with emergency services and garbage trucks already having difficulty navigating their way down the narrow road.

A PLANNED three-storey, 40-room boarding house in Cameron Street in Lidcombe, has concerned nearby residents who say they can’t believe such a huge development could be built in their “quiet little
They say the narrow street already struggles to cope with neighbourhood traffic and the extra cars would only add to the problems. With cars parking on both sides, there is only enough room for one car to drive through at a time.
Resident Maria Marille says there is not enough parking and some vehicles are already being parked illegally on the nature strip.
She also says some are parked so close to the entrance of Cameron Street that there have been several near-missed collisions when trying to get out of Cameron Street onto Woodburn Road.
However, the applicant, Corona Projects, says the project has just been lodged with council and is only in its early stages but welcomes input from residents.
Corona Projects General Manager Alexander Machkevitch said a number of studies had been carried out, including a traffic report which found the project met planning requirements.
“However, there is still a way to go and we’re happy to discuss residents’ concerns with them,” he said.
Residents said there had been instances when garbage trucks were unable to collect the street’s garbage due to cars blocking the street and it also made it difficult for them to manoeuvre their vehicle.
“This does not give comfort to residents in cases of emergency when a fire truck or ambulance has to be called in as these vehicles will often struggle getting into the street,” she said.
