How golf the ideal escape

CARNARVON Golf Course at Lidcombe may be closed but golfing enthusiasts can still play at Woodville and Rosnay Golf Courses in the Cumberland LGA.

A surprising big hit of the pandemic, a quarter of a million more people are playing golf in Australia in the last year – a trend that keeps growing.
In fact, children as young as 10 and adults as old as 100 are among those hitting the greens for the first time, while Golf Australia’s Vision 2025 campaign aims to address imbalances and attract more girls and women to the game. (Men make up about 80 per cent of club members).
Golf Pro at Rosnay, Dean Rayner, said he was getting about 40 bookings a day from those keen to escape being locked down at home eager for some fresh air, sunshine and a boost to their golfing skills.
According to the Golf NSW, you can exercise or play golf with one other person that you do not live with or a nominated visitor if in a singles bubble. If you live with more than two people, you can all go out together for exercise.
“Golf is the ideal exercise because you don’t have to be good to play, even the top golfers have their bad days,” Dean said.
“And you get the health benefits you get from light to moderate walking.
“Even though bookings, on offer from 6.30am to 4.30pm daily, are limited to one hour, most people find they can still get nine holes in.”
You’ve also got to wear a mask and must social distance plus live within five kilometres of the course in line with the public health orders.
