Outpaced Sydney rivals to book a berth in semi finals

AFTER their gritty one-point win 11.8 (74) to 10.13 (73) over the Sydney Swans in Launceston on Saturday, the GWS Giants have locked in a knockout semi finals berth against the Geelong Cats this Friday night at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Despite the Giants having the game on their terms for the first three quarters, the Swans staged a late fightback to just fall short.
While the opening quarter was an arm-wrestle, the Giants booted five goals in a row midway through the second quarter to bring the game back well and truly on their terms.
Fresh off being named in the Therabody All-Australian team, Toby Greene was electric for the Giants, booting three goals.
Giants Captain Stephen Coniglio said: “I’m just so proud of this group and what we’ve been able to achieve this season.”
Friday night’s game will commence at 7.50pm which will be the first finals meeting between the clubs.
The Giants will be hoping to repeat the upset victory they had over the Cats in round 21 when their undermanned outfit orchestrated a rare win at GMHBA Stadium by 19 points.
It’ll be the Giants first trip to Perth since the round two loss against Fremantle.
The winner of the semi final will advance to a preliminary final against Melbourne.
