Four inmates isolated after positive tests

FOUR inmates at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre in Silverwater are in isolation after positive Covid-19 tests.

A Corrective Services NSW spokesman said the four are new inmates and are all being housed in isolation in accordance with our existing Covid-19 protocols.
The isolation hub at MRRC allows Corrective Services NSW to manage Covid-19 cases in a central location while providing them with the optimal level of care.
The spokesperson said all inmates are tested for Covid-19 when they arrive in custody and are managed in quarantine for 14 days before being cleared to move into the general population.
“The CSNSW Covid Command Post supports the contact tracing process in custodial facilities to identify anyone who has had contact with those inmates,” he said.
“Impacted staff are being directed to go for immediate Covid-19 testing and to isolate.”
The four cases include:
• A fresh custody inmate who returned a positive test result while quarantined in a single cell at Bathurst Correctional Centre on Friday, August 13 and was later transferred to the MRRC.
• A fresh custody inmate who was released from Bathurst Correctional Centre on Monday, August 9, and returned a positive test result on Wednesday, August 11. The inmate has returned to custody.
• A fresh custody inmate who returned a positive test result on Saturday, August 14.
• A fresh custody inmate who returned a positive test result on Sunday, August 15.
Investigations continue into how the four men contracted the virus.
