‘Give everyone a say and roster jobs to spread work’

REVESBY Workers’ Little Athletics volunteer Stuart McGraw says his organisation has a parent roster system as well as a teen coaching program to boost their army of helpers now and into the future.

Commenting on Sport Australia’s National Sport Volunteering Plan initiative, with the aim of attracting and retaining volunteers, Stuart says many volunteers are on the older side.
“There were not many young ones coming through and that’s why we are offering a Tiny Tots program as a way to get older children aged from 13 to mentor and coach them as a way to foster that volunteer mindset,” he said.
“Hopefully many of the teens will continue with taking the younger ones on their journey plus we’re lucky we always have our parents signing up to help at events not only that their children are in but also to support other families.
“Our 15-strong committee is always coming up with ideas to make things better for families and build our social networks which has seen our volunteer base grow over the years and we are all about encouraging the younger generation.
“We give our parent volunteers a say too in the decision-making and direction of the club, and ensure work is spread across everyone.”
Little Athletics NSW has made the decision to delay online registrations until Monday, August 30, at this stage due to the present lockdowns throughout the State.
