Lifestyle & Community Engagement Manager Simone Lucidi said the lockdown presented a new set of challenges and there was a need to create connection with the outside world.
“Sometimes all we need are a few positive words to get us through a tough day,” he said.
“Our lifestyle team has launched this art project and is calling on residents, staff, friends and families, especially grandchildren, to send us a coloured, winter leaf with an inspiring message.
“You can print and colour them or just draw your own, then scan and email them to me; a picture will do if you don’t have a scanner.
“For those who are more tech-savvy, the leaves are in a JPG format, you can colour them using the app called Paint from Windows or other applications using your mobile/tablet device.
“We are starting to assemble all of the artworks now so please email them as soon as you can.”
Already receiving about 30 leaves, some of the messages include: ‘Missing my great grandmother Mardi’, ‘Walking can help you feel better’; ‘Missing you mum and dad from all the family’; and ‘Today is a good day’.

Tree grows leaves of support to help
HOPING to collect 100 messages of support to comfort their aged care residents who are not able to see family during lockdown, Leigh Place Roselands staff have created a ‘Lockdown Tree of Friendship and Solidarity’ and invite all to send in a leaf with some kind words.
