Win $10,000, computer in World of Tanks battle

HOURS of practice have finally paid off for Kingsgrove’s Rowen ‘Rowendy’ Young whose team of seven has won $10,000 and a PC computer each in the World of Tanks ANZ Premier League finals.

One of the country’s first in-person Esports events since Covid, World of Tanks is a ‘five vs five’ format where players drive tanks inspired by real-life historic designs.
They drive around a series of battlefields, each with different terrain with the objective of working with other teammates to eliminate enemy tanks.
Captaining his team, ‘North Sydney Sentinels’, Rowen has been playing for eight years and got involved as a way to keep in regular touch with his friends.
The mad sports and cars fan, 37, who works at Bunnings by day, is the father of five-month-old Ozkan and says wife Lily is thrilled that his efforts have paid off.
“The game is all about strategy and communication,” he explained.
“It was a great feeling beating the eight strong teams that came from across Australia and New Zealand.
“Even though it’s called, World of Tanks, every region in the world runs their competition differently but we certainly are looking to join contests run in Japan and Korea and other parts of Asia next.”
Playing previously against teams in the USA, Rowen said returning to their competition was also on his bucket list.
“I’m a keen NBA (National Basketball Association) and NFL (National Football League) fan, as well as being a huge AFL fan here, so a visit to the USA would be fantastic,” he said.
