Our Lady still watching all

IF you were to walk into the St Mary’s Catholic Primary School playground at Georges Hall this week, you would be forgiven for thinking that there was a celebrity in their midst.
Break time for many students recently has been spent looking up in awe and fascination at the developing, two-storey high mural by artist Danny Mulyono that has been commissioned by the school’s inspiring Principal Monica Palmer.
Now complete and with the school last week celebrating the stunning results, the ever-changing artwork has seen some students bring in their own art books and sit sketching at the base of the mural, often asking questions and looking for advice.
“The mural of Our Lady, Australia’s first saint and Catholic education founder Mary Mackillop, surrounded by the Australian landscape beautifully represents the schools values under Our Lady’s loving gaze and watchful eye as we celebrate 200 years of Catholic education,” Mrs Palmer said.
“Mary began by teaching orphans how to read and write which is how Catholic education started in Australia and we’ve come such a long way since then; there are 150 Catholic schools in the Sydney Diocese alone.
“All the aspects of the mural are very significant to us and we are so thrilled with the result.”
