Record number of locals take on nation’s best

FIFTY-TWO athletes from Bankstown Sports Athletics Club (BSAC) will converge on Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre (SOPAC) for this week’s 2021 Australian Track and Field Championships.
Representing BSAC in a multitude of track and field events, they will be spearheaded by aspiring 1500-metre Olympic qualifier Jye Edwards and 400-metre Doha World Championships representative and Olympic aspirant Ian Halpin along with 2018 Olympic Youth Games Silver medallist Jaylah Hancock-Cameron.
BSAC President Colin Whitbread said it was extremely encouraging to have so many athletes qualify for Nationals.

“These 52 athletes exceed the previous club record of 40 and is a magnificent testament to the dedication of all athletes and their coaches,” he said.
“It is fantastic to have so many junior and open level athletes representing our club across such a range of track and field events.
“We are optimistic that BSAC will capture multiple medals at the Nationals.
“I’d also like to extend a massive thank you to Bankstown District Sports Club for the tremendous support given to BSAC over many years.
“This support is invaluable and goes a long way in assisting these athletes to fulfill their potential.”
