“Local GPs have told me they don’t have enough doses of the vaccine and they need more,” he said.
“Australia won’t get back to normal until everyone is vaccinated, and that’s not happening fast enough. The Prime Minister promised that four million Australians would be vaccinated this month but that hasn’t happened.”
Eligible Phase 1B patients, including those aged over 70, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults over 55, and adults with certain underlying medical conditions, began receiving their first of two doses of the vaccine on Monday.
One of the 10 GP clinics and medical centres in Canterbury Bankstown signed up to dispense the vaccine, is Riverwood Medical and practice manager Eddie Medina said they were already booked out with a waiting list of about 100 leaving some people frustrated.
“It’s the sheer quantity of people wanting to book to get a vaccine,” he said.
Receiving only 100 doses for the first week, he said that last year the practice did about 2,000 flu vaccinations in two months, and with seven doctors they could easily dispense 80 Covid-19 vaccinations a day.
Also fully booked is the Canterbury Plaza Medical Centre which received an allocation of 400 doses.
Hurry up with jabs
HUNDREDS of people received the first of two vaccinations against Covid-19 this week but Federal MP for Blaxland, Jason Clare, says the rollout is too slow and the Government “needs to hurry up”.
