Guides Hall sold to make way for new development

A FAMILIAR sight at Breasley Place since 1953, the Yagoona Guide Hall has been sold off to make way for development.

Girl Guides NSW were approached by a community services non-government organisation who owned surrounding property and wanted to acquire the hall to replace it with a new community facility.
Though feeling sad to farewell their much-loved meeting place of 68 years, the guide group says Yagoona’s loss will be Greenacre’s gain.
District manager at Yagoona for the last 11 years, Janelle Harding said that after packing up shop and dispersing their many items to local charities including Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre, they would be calling the Boronia Road Guide Hall in Greenacre, their new home.
“There are only about six senior guides left as we haven’t had any leaders for juniors for a while,” she said.
“So we are looking to rebuild and grow the organisation from the Greenacre base.
“We were in Yagoona for a long time and change is never easy but we are excited about the possibilities that are going to be on offer in Greenacre and invite girls aged 10 to 14 to come along and experience the benefits.
“Guiding is a place where girls and young women can challenge themselves, put their ideas into action, take part in an amazing range of activities and gain the skills to confidently navigate their world – all in a safe and supportive environment.”
