Big change to bin pick-up

BIN collection days and times are about to change for seven out of 10 households in the final stage of the council realigning waste services between the former Canterbury and Bankstown council areas.

Mayor Khal Asfour said existing waste contractors and services of the former councils, were not working as efficiently as they could.
“So, we’ve streamlined the services and brought the collections of red and yellow bins in-house. This means we will achieve better quality and consistency in the services we provide,” he said.
“To help make this transition easier, we are offering a special one-off collection of all three bins (red, yellow and green) on residents’ normal bin day in the week of February 22-26 so bins are empty and ready for the permanent changes beginning from March 1-5.”
There will also be changes to Clean Up collection services and Bulky Waste size increases.
Commercial properties in the former Canterbury Council area, continue to be provided with red and yellow lid bin collection services and will undergo the same changes as residences in these suburbs.
However, those in the former Bankstown Council area, do not receive this service and are not impacted by the new services.
The council has started mailing out property-specific calendars and putting stickers on red bins informing residents of their new collection days. Residents can also find their new bin day by calling Customer Service on 9707 9000 or typing their address into the new Bin Day Finder function at cb.city/Bitdefender.
