New Innovation Hub to take youth to stars

KEEPING students ahead of the pack, Kingsgrove North High School will launch a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Innovation Hub next month.

The new hub will make it easier for students to develop skills such as problem solving, digital literacy and independent thinking.
Spearheaded by Principal Angelo Stasos, STEM has evolved at the school over the past three years giving students the options to study mechatronics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, engineering, 3D CAD/CAM, aerospace and motion through project-based learning.
With the global economy changing and jobs disappearing due to automation, new jobs are emerging everyday as a result of technological advances.
“STEM empowers individuals with the skills to succeed and adapt to this changing world,” Mr Stasos said.
“Skills developed through STEM provide students with the foundation to succeed at school and beyond.”
With a capacity for 45 students, the STEM Hub will support collaboration in ways that do not restrict learning as well as offering easy access to after-school activities such as the coding club.
State-of-the-art technology, such as virtual reality headsets, will feature along with new surface tablets, 3D printers and a laser cutter for building rockets.
