Cumberland Council has asked for public feedback by March 1 on a proposal to rename the stadium in honour of the oldest living Wallaby player, Eric Tweedale.
After serving in the navy during World War II, Mr Tweedale was selected for the Wallabies team in 1946 to play against the All Blacks in Australia’s first post-war international Test, before going on to earn 13 representative caps playing against Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, France and Canada as well as playing for the NSW Waratahs.
Growing up in Merrylands and Guildford, he was just 17 when he played first grade Rugby for Parramatta, now known as the Western Sydney Two Blues, and the club’s general manager Craig Morgan said the 99-year-old, who is also the club’s patron, remains “a bit of a living legend”.
“He still comes down here on occasions, and when we can get him down to games or presentations nights and things like that, he still leads the club song with gusto,” he said.

Stadium likely named in Tweedale’s honour
WHEN the revamped Granville Park Stadium is officially opened in May it could have a new name as well as a new look.
