Racing with development but no infrastructure plans
The community only learned that Transport for NSW (TfNSW) had cancelled the westbound off-ramp project in December, and State MP for Auburn, Lynda Voltz, said the infrastructure needs of local residents were being ignored by the Government.
“At the same time as they’re approving another 700 new homes to the 5,500 under construction in the Carter Street precinct, they’re cancelling road upgrades designed to deal with the development,” she said.
“This Government is continuing to leave the residents of Auburn behind on road infrastructure.”
Also voicing her frustration, Sydney Olympic Park Business Association CEO Allison Taylor said they had been communicating for five years on the $140 million link project pledged in 2014 and suggested by them as part of feedback into the WestConnex project.
She told the Review that in a meeting with TfNSW officials this month, it was explained that there were safety concerns associated with the project and that they would set up a taskforce to “look at future solutions for the area”.
“We are very disappointed that a solution wasn’t able to be found, as well the time it took to reach that conclusion,” she said.
“There doesn’t seem to be a priority to fix transport issues while development is going ahead. We absolutely support growth within the precinct but there also needs to be a priority on delivering the transport infrastructure that is needed.”
A proposal to upgrade Hill Road to improve links to the Carter Street Precinct, Wentworth Point and Newington is now under consideration by TfNSW.
