Corrections Minister Anthony Roberts said she was one of four Corrective Services NSW officers who earned the prestigious Australian Corrections Medal.
“We are honoured to have such esteemed individuals and these officers should be very proud to be receiving this recognition,” he said.
Ms Mijatovic joined in 1997 at Long Bay and later transferred to the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) at Silverwater where she became a senior correctional officer.
She says that while it can be daunting when you first start, particularly for young female officers, it’s a challenging job and different everyday “but I’m grateful to do a job I enjoy”.
“As a female officer in a male-dominated area, I hope to encourage younger females to try this career, which has been rewarding for me.”
