Also known as the Lidcombe Waratah Over 45s football team, the Goats are inviting new players to join them at their first training session for the year at Coleman Park in Georges Avenue at Lidcombe at 7pm tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3.
Playing in over-age football competitions for more than 20 years, some of team’s players have put in more than 50 years of football in the Granville District, and the oldest Goat is 72 years of age and still running around the paddock.
While happy to welcome experienced players aged over 45 and looking for a team, this year the Goats are also keen to find some new ‘kids’ to join the herd, with the Granville Association’s rules allowing Over 45 teams to field three ‘junior’ players, who have turned 42 on or prior to December 31 the previous year.
With last year’s season delayed for three months before being shortened because of the Covid-19 restrictions, the team is hoping that this year things will be closer to normal with a proper pre-season training period and a full 18-round competition.
