Colourful friends flock in to help us celebrate

COCKATOOS, lorikeets, kookaburras and galahs will be flocking to town centres as part of the Art Trail to celebrate Australia Day on Tuesday.

The Art Trail will feature the work of Brode Compton, graffiti and street artist director of Blackbook Ink, whose artworks will be displayed at town centres in Bankstown, Campsie, Chester Hill, Revesby and Earlwood from Monday, January 25 to Monday, February 1.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to add some colour and vibrancy to our town centres and celebrate all the beauty we have in Australia,” Compton said.
The well-known local muralist has been a full-time graffiti artist for over 10 years and said he may also pair the Australian native birds with birds from other countries to celebrate the diversity in our multicultural society.
From an early age, Compton has been constantly drawing and painting; his passion was ignited when he started painting graffiti in 1999.
As a self-taught artist, he started his business, Blackbook Ink, in 2011 to create unique art for the public to enjoy.
“I believe art should be shared with the public and not just kept in galleries as street art allows people to view it 24/7,” he said.
Painting many different types of art, Compton mainly focuses on birds and animals and experiments with various colour combinations.
He has produced works for the Bankstown Arts Centre and Mary McKillop Park as well as local schools.
