Top student poets score trophy, cash

BEATING hundreds of other entries, Regents Park’s St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School student Peter David has been awarded the inaugural Auburn Poet Laureate Award in the junior category for his poem, ‘I Feel … Reflective’.
Schools throughout the Auburn electorate were invited in September and October to enter the competition to show of their students’ poetic creativity about the difficult year with the topic of ‘2020, A Reflection’.
Ten finalists were selected from each category, with the winner receiving a trophy and a $500 donation to the school P&C.
State MP for Auburn, Lynda Voltz said the students showed some amazing writing skills.
“I’m very proud of our local students’ quality and creativity,” she said.
“We had a lot of great entries and I know the judges had a very difficult job in choosing the finalists and winners.
“Congratulations to Peter and his school – his poem was an outstanding piece of work and the school can be very proud.”
Other finalists were: Maria Zargar and Yan Zhang, Auburn North Public; Gibson Chew, Orana Grandadam and Matthew Perez, Regents Park Public; Martina Marki, Paddy Deehan and Gabriella Abouzeid, St Peter Chanel Primary; and Keya Kadam, Wentworth Point Public.
Finalists in the senior category included: Monica Pham, Krisha Velmurugan and Gabrielle Satuito, Trinity Catholic College.
