Shop local and snap up a win chance

THREE $100 Stockland Mall shopping vouchers are up for grabs for shoppers in Cumberland and it’s as easy as snapping a picture.

Launched by Cumberland Council to help boost the local economy, shoppers can enter by making a purchase or receiving a service from one of the participating ‘Shop Local this Holiday Season’ businesses listed at cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
Then just take a photo and upload it to your Facebook or Instagram account, and tag @cumberlandcitycouncil. Entries close on January 31 and don’t forget to keep your receipt.
With Cumberland’s gross regional product for the September quarter down 5.3 per cent on last year, Mayor Steve Christou also called on businesses to join the free initiative.
“This year has had a huge toll on our local economy. That’s why we’ve introduced these supportive measures to help boost sales and strategies,” he said.
“The support for businesses is not over, and we remain in this together. Whether it’s your next family dinner, Christmas shopping or spoiling pets, we want people to shop locally this holiday season.”
Retailers, service providers, food and entertainment businesses can all sign up to be part of the promotion which already includes Skyview Continental Café and Restaurant Granville, Hunter Shafiz Lawyers in Merrylands and Tenpin City Lidcombe.
Nam Nguyen from Nam Drycleaners Lidcombe is also among the businesses hoping for some extra customers from the promotion, along with Alicia Cosmetic and Hair Braiding in Merrylands who has specials on Dutch braids and hair extensions.
Alicia said while her business is “doing okay”, like everyone else they “just wish Covid wasn’t here”.
