Free parking for healthcare staff

FRONTLINE health workers at Bankstown and Canterbury hospitals will be able to park without the threat of a fine for another six months.

Mayor Khal Asfour said it was a small gesture to acknowledge the great work frontline health workers had done in ensuring the community gets the best possible care during the pandemic.
Canterbury Bankstown Council has been offering the free parking for the last six months to help healthcare workers, allowing them to park in timed zones around Canterbury and Bankstown-Lidcombe hospitals for their entire shift without incurring a fine.
Mayor Asfour said the gesture had been overwhelmingly received by all concerned and would now be extended until March 31.
“As restrictions slowly start to ease, we must remember that these doctors, nurses, and many others are still working around the clock for us,” he said.
“The virus is still active and remains a threat to us all.
“While things are looking positive and restrictions are beginning to once again ease, the reality is that while many of us are feeling this relief, our healthcare workers have a long road ahead.”
