Free class to learn ‘jewellery-making’

ARE you tired of searching for jewellery that matches your looks, personality or mood … and is within budget?

Making your own jewellery can be very satisfying and it’s easy once you know how.
A free jewellery-making course can get you on your way, with one on offer at the Granville Centre, 1 Memorial Drive, on Tuesday, November 3, 10-11am.
It’s facilitated by Cleonie Quayle, a Maljangapa woman of the Baakantj nation.
As well as being an award-winning and passionate social justice advocate, she is a self employed jewellery maker, spending her time collecting and crafting Aboriginal Gumnut and Quongdong jewellery.
“My jewellery connects the environment, landscape, healing circles and nature,” she said. “It is so easy to learn the basics of this ancient practice of jewellery making which has been passed down through the generations.”
It is through her craftsmanship that it is evident that while Aboriginal culture is one of the oldest traditions in the world, it is also capable of moving forward and evolving.
Cleonie’s necklaces have been showcased in many exhibitions including Indigenous Fashion Week, NAIDOC exhibitions and through Tali gallery.
