With main users St Christopher’s Junior Rugby League Club, St Christopher’s Cricket Club and the Bankstown District Cricket Association’s rep area players from Panania, East Hills and Revesby, the grounds are having to cope with rising memberships as well as the arrival of more girls and womens teams.
St Christopher’s Junior Rugby League Club President Grant Hanratty has met with all levels of government and has the unconditional support of Canterbury Bankstown Council but its funding is limited to maintaining existing infrastructure and not new developments, as would be the case at the Revesby Heights reserve.
“We are going through the grants process and through the Australian Sports Foundation, have set up a public donation link that’s similar to the gofundme platform, with all donations tax deductible if over $2,” Grant said.
“The clubhouse was built in the 1970s with minimal storage options and when few girls and women were playing footy or cricket; it does have showers but there’s no privacy, it’s very antiquated.
“The reserve plays such an important role in so many lives and deserves to be brought into modern times but we need the public’s help to get there.”
Canterbury Bankstown Councillor Linda Downey has gone into bat for the group and at her request, the council will lobby State and Federal governments to fund the work.
If you can help the clubs reach their $150,000 goal, even with a $2 donation, go to stchristophers.com.au.
Clubhouse bursting at the seams
HOME to thousands of junior rugby league and cricket players in the last several decades, Bill Delauney Reserve is in desperate need of a redevelopment including the construction of a new clubhouse.
