The Jets made a great start and ran up a 24-0 lead after only 27 minutes, but then had to weather the inevitable fightback by the in-form Bears.
Newtown went in at halftime with a 24-12 lead, but knowing that the Bears were one of the most lethal attacking combinations in this year’s Canterbury Cup NSW competition.
The second half proved to be a real thriller for the big crowd at Henson Park for Newtown’s first home game of the 2019 season. The Jets quickly increased their lead to 30-12 but Norths looked to be well placed when they pulled back to 30-all with 15 minutes still left to play.
The Jets kicked a penalty goal 10 minutes out from full-time and then showed considerable grit in managing to defend this 32-30 margin right to the full-time siren.
The Jets are back home at Henson Park on Sunday, April 21, when they will play Penrith at 1pm.
