First Kings’ all girls teams having ball in debut

IT was the perfect return to action for the Marrickville Kings Junior Rugby League Club after being sidelined over Covid for three months as they watched their first ever, all girls (U14s and U18s) teams play on Saturday.

It was great to be back and the youngsters had a ball, according to club secretary Gerry Zapantis.
“On Sunday, we had all our other teams play – 5s, 6s, 7s, 9s and 11s,” he said.
“We’ve worked hard to get it going again; last year was a good season and we just keep getting bigger and bigger.
“We’ve all grown up and gone to school with each other in the area and a lot of us now have kids of our own that are playing or will play eventually when they’re older.
“The club’s got a really good culture and we’re always on the lookout for new players too.
“However, we opted out of running senior teams this year, it was too hard financially for us since we lost our sponsors.”
