Pedestrian crossing a win for pupil safety advocates

THE trip to school for students at Tempe Public, Ferncourt Public and Tempe High schools will be much safer with the completion of a new pedestrian crossing over Richardson Crescent in South Marrickville.

Labor candidate for council, Mathew Howard, was joined by Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne and State MP for Summer Hill, Jo Haylen MP (pictured) – who both strongly advocated for the crossing – to put it to the test.
Mayor Byrne says providing high quality local infrastructure for pedestrians, especially local families and children is a central priority of his.
“Investment in basic infrastructure like this will make our community safer and more accessible,” he said.
Ms Haylen said the crossing was one of the key problems raised in her recent School Safety Survey and would go a long way to making the daily journey to school safer for kids from across Tempe and South Marrickville.
“This is a great day for our local community,” she said.
“I want to thank and congratulate the P&Cs for the strong and consistent advocacy for their school community, and for other local pedestrians in South Marrickville.”
