Open for business

SCHOOL drop off zones are roaring back to life this week with students returning to class while many businesses are preparing to reopen from June 1 as Covid-19 lockdown rules are reduced.
Canterbury Boys High School Principal Ross Dummett welcomed the return, saying it hasn’t been easy for teachers but a lot of strategies had been put in place to ensure optimum learning and safety.
“We’ve got 60 litres of hand sanitiser, thermometers for temperature checks and clean classrooms at the end of every lesson,” he said.
Defying the trend, all 480 Kindergarten to Year 12 students at St Marouns College in Dulwich Hill, returned to the classroom last week after having a trial run on Friday, May 15.

Canterbury Boys High School students were observing social distancing.

Principal Dr Margaret Ghosn says she couldn’t wait to bring back all of the students and they were just as keen to return.
“It’s easier for us since we are a smaller school with classes no more than 20 students and have lots of yard space for everyone,” she said.
With restrictions eased to allow up to 50 customers back into pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants, Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL will throw open its doors on Monday.
“CHP RSL would like to thank all the healthcare workers, supermarket staff, home school teachers, work from homers and everyone who made sacrifices for our community’s safety,” a spokesperson said.
“There is much to look forward to as bit by bit we are able to enjoy time out of our homes. But we all must continue to play our part by practising social distancing, good hygiene and to stay home if feeling unwell.

Dad Ser Tan hugged Evonne goodbye on her first day back at Croydon Park Public School.

“We are working hard to provide everyone with a welcoming, CovidSafe experience when we reopen from Monday.”
Campsie RSL and Chester Hill RSL are awaiting clarification on the 50-patron limit but are hoping to reopen soon.
“Members should keep checking our website and the signage at our venues,” a spokesperson said.
Beauty and nail salon operators have been told they could offer treatments from June 1 but under strict guidelines.
Also able to open from next week, are zoos, aquariums and wildlife parks, along with museums, galleries and libraries.
