PM also bans gatherings of over 100, aged care visits, overseas travel
HOARDING is “un-Australian”.
That is the blunt message from Prime Minister Scott Morrison who also urged people to call out anyone they see abusing staff in shops.
“Stop hoarding. It is not helpful and it has been one of the most disappointing things I have seen in Australian behaviour in response to this crisis,” he said.
In an address to the nation on Wednesday morning, following a late night teleconference with State and Territory leaders, he said there was no reason for people to be hoarding supplies, adding that it was “ridiculous” and “not sensible”.
Mr Morrison also announced a detailed range of “scalable and sustainable measures” to deal with the Covid-19 crisis which he said would likely last for at least six months.
Among the measures is a new ban on non-essential indoor gatherings of 100 people or more, as well as restrictions on visiting elderly relatives in aged care, although schools will remain open.
For the first time in Australia’s history, he also upgraded the travel ban to level four for the entire world.
“The travel advice to every Australian is ‘Do not travel abroad, do not go overseas’. That is very clear, that instruction,” he said.
