“I knew very little about football, I used to watch it but didn’t know the rules but now I love it,” she said.
“I also didn’t realise how family friendly the Kings are and one season after joining in 2017, three of my daughters Mele-Kyannah, 12, Ashanti, 9 and Elsiaria, 7, joined. This year, my youngest daughter Vasenai, 5, is also in a team.
“They love it and the younger ones say to me all the time, ‘is it training tonight’, they can’t wait to get out on the field and have fun.
“They have their training gear ready before their school things; they are like me, all for ‘girl power’ and a lot of other clubs don’t even have teams for girls.”
Winning the ‘Most Improved’ player award last season, Salote said the players have each others’ backs both on and off the field.
“I couldn’t be more happy and thankful for how far me and the girls have come,” she added.
“I want to thank the coach, the trainers and the club; everyone is just so supportive.
“I am so much fitter now and mentally stronger and it’s been amazing for my girls too. They used to be very shy but are now brave and confident.”
With training typically held on a Tuesday and Thursday night from 5pm, and game days on Sundays, the club is offering free registration which includes player insurance, game fees, jersey, shorts and socks.
