Jets zoom in for Dirty Red tussle
The Jets and Dirty Reds, two of rugby league’s oldest clubs, will meet in a pre-season trial match at Wentworth Park on Sunday, February 16.
This showdown will be the first time that these two foundation clubs have met in a rugby league match in 91 years.
A Jets spokesperson said it has all the makings of a very competitive and spirited trial match.
The Glebe Dirty Reds are Newtown’s partnership club in the NSWRL Ron Massey Cup competition and the players in both squads will be vying for a place in the 2020 Newtown Jets Canterbury Cup NSW team.
Newtown’s trial matches will include:
• Glebe Dirty Reds v Newtown Jets on Sunday, February 16, 4pm at Wentworth Park, Glebe. The curtain raiser will be a NSWRL Sydney Shield trial game.
• Newtown v Canterbury-Bankstown on Saturday, February 22, 5pm at Henson Park.
The action begins with a full round of Sydney Roosters junior representative matches (Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Tarsha Gale) and followed at 3pm with the Cronulla Sharks taking on Canterbury Bulldogs in a Jersey Flegg trial match.
