RSL memorials to be relocated as Club Belmore prepares for closure

CANTERBURY Bankstown Council will investigate appropriate sites for the relocation of memorials located at Belmore RSL, with the club set to close at the end of the year.

The decision follows a request from Cr Philip Madirazza to relocate the memorials to ensure they remain accessible and visible for the local community after a decision to close the club on December 31.
He said the club, now known as Club Belmore, has expressed interest in donating and contributing to the relocation of the memorial, specifically the option to relocate to Terry Lamb Reserve as part of the implementation of actions identified in the Belmore Masterplan.
“This memorial has deep local historical and cultural significance,” Cr Madirazza said.
“It plays a very important role in our history remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for country and in particular, our community.
“It is important that the council collaborate and engage with the club to ensure it remains for all the local community.”
The club was unavailable for comment.
