CANTERBURY Earlwood Caring Association provides free, individual, home support for older people living alone by linking them with volunteers for regular home visits. Aiming to enrich the quality of life for people who would benefit from a friendly visitor, the Home Visitors program also helps them to feel more connected with their local community.
At present, there are volunteers from a variety of different cultural backgrounds, including Australian, Chinese, Greek, Fijian and Indian communities, who are very keen to visit those who are unable to connect with others due to frailty or isolation.
This service is tailored to each client's personal interests, backgrounds and experiences.
Those receiving the service will share cups of tea, enjoy conversation, a local stroll, a friendly game of dominoes, perhaps some gentle exercise or have company watching a movie - all in the comfort of their home.
If you or someone you know would like to enjoy a cultural exchange or simply form new friendships, give Margherita a call on Tuesdays or Wednesdays on 9559 4013.
