FIVE people had a lucky escape after a fire broke out in the early hours of the morning at their Granville home (pictured).
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said the first of six crews arrived on the scene just after 4am and found the single level fibro cottage well alight.
He said the five people inside had managed to self-evacuate before firefighters arrived.
"The fire quickly escalated with flames through the roof, although no neighbouring properties were threatened," he said.
"The building also contained asbestos material so a hazardous materials crew from Chester Hill attended to make it safe."
While it is believed to have began in the kitchen, the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
