SPRUIKING the critical role of local councils in the State's economy, Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton said they spent $11.3 billion annually on infrastructure and services, employing more than 45,000 people across the State.
Speaking during Local Government Week (July 30-August 5), she said that's why the Government had introduced "a package of reforms to improve the integrity, performance and sustainability of local councils".
Mayor Greg Cummings said council was "more than just roads, rates and rubbish".
