AN investigation is underway after a guard at Silverwater Jail fired his weapon.
The incident began when an inmate due to be released on Saturday afternoon allegedly panicked and fled when he was questioned about a paperwork bungle.
A Corrective Services spokesperson said a security guard working at the complex's boom gate fired a warning shot into the ground after the "offender" ran from the guard.
"The inmate was due for release but had the wrong documentation," she said.
"No one was injured during the incident."
