THE Blues are determined to loosen the Maroons' firm grip on the coveted State of Origin shield when the two teams meet next Wednesday in the series opener.
A record 11 debutants will take to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for NSW on June 6 to try to break Queensland's stranglehold on the State of Origin series.
Former Queensland captain Cameron Smith (pictured) has this year handed the baton over to Greg Inglis, who will lead his team into battle against an inexperienced Blues side, led by Boyd Cordner (pictured).
