LOCAL business people and Salvation Army supporters (pictured) officially launched the Red Shield Appeal last week at a breakfast hosted by Dooleys.
Auburn Salvation Army's Major Paul Moulds said: "In our local area, more and more people are seeking our help.
"Lack of affordable housing, rising cost of living pressures, insecure employment arrangements, and cuts to the social safety net are pushing everyday Australians into hardship and poverty.
"Our phones are ringing off the hook all day, every day, as more Australians swallow their pride and contact us for help.
"As the Red Shield Appeal comes around again this year, we need your help more than ever to assist Australians who are really struggling in our community."
You can support disadvantaged Australians by donating or volunteering for this year's Red Shield Appeal, taking place this weekend, May 26-27.
