EVERYONE'S invited to Inner West Council's Community Nurseries Open Day, Saturday, May 26, 10am-1pm. Learn about native plants and native gardening, score a free seedling, take a guided tour, hear from volunteers who help local biodiversity and learn how to volunteer for local biodiversity. The Marrickville Community Nursery, which was opened in the Addison Road Community Centre by the council in 1999, features a viewing platform overlooking a frog pond and a comfortable outdoor seating area.

Families can tour fire station
THE annual Fire and Rescue NSW open day will be held on Saturday with stations across Canterbury Bankstown giving visitors a glimpse into the service. There will be demonstrations, tours and a chance to meet firefighters and see the equipment they use to keep the community safe. There is also an array of children's activities. The day provides an opportunity to speak to firefighters about fire safety in the home, including how to install and maintain smoke alarms and how to develop a home escape plan. Stations open from 10am to 2pm.

Buy a pink bun to join fight
BREAST Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) is urging people to get down to their local Bakers Delight until May 23 and buy a special pink-iced finger bun. The Pink Bun Campaign is now in its 14th year and Bakers Delight bakeries across Australia are aiming to raise a record $2 million. Each bakery donates the proceeds of every pink bun, the cost of the ingredients and staff. Over the 17-year partnership, Bakers Delight has raised more than $18 million to support BCNA's work.foodfesv
