DEMONSTRATING just how unpredictable a firefighter's day can be, the Review tracked down the Lidcombe Fire Crew at a grass fire at Rookwood Cemetery on Thursday afternoon.
The station's crews also paid tribute on their noticeboard to three Turkish firefighters, Tanner Cebi, Erhan Yazkan and Aykut Kabakciohlu who lost their lives responding to separate incidents in Istanbul and Bolu last week.
This Saturday visitors can step inside the doors of the Lidcombe, Guildford, Merrylands or Silverwater Fire Stations for the 2018 annual Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Open Day, from 10am to 2pm.
Firefighters will hold safety demonstrations, station tours and give visitors of all ages a chance to check out the equipment and trucks used to respond to an array of emergencies. There will also be plenty of activities for kids.
Visitors can ask for first-hand advice about fire safety in the home, including how to install and maintain smoke alarms and how to develop a home escape plan to ensure they can quickly and safely escape a fire.
