SUPPLYING Sydneysiders with most of their fresh vegetables migrants from the Zhaoqing area in China were among more than 500 people celebrating the Lunar New Year.
The inaugural Chinese New Year event was organised by the Australian Zhaoqing Fellowship Association and Australian Zhaoqing Industry and Commerce Association at a farm in Rossmore.
Among the attendees was Opposition Leader Luke Foley and State MP for Auburn who praised the farm workers, many of whom now live in and around Auburn.
"I wish to pay tribute to the hardworking Auburn farmers who grow our fresh food and vegetables," Mr Foley said.
"They allow us to have access to a local supply of fresh food here in Sydney that we so often take for granted.
"Ninety per cent of our Chinese vegetables are grown by farmers who migrated here from Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province. It was wonderful to be with them as they celebrated their history and culture."
