A MAN armed with a gun and a large knife attempted to rob a hotel in St Peters early Sunday morning.
About 1.15am, a man entered the foyer of a hotel on the Princes Highway, near Canal Road, carrying what was believed to be a large knife and a handgun, and had his face covered.
He approached a security guard and a hotel patron and demanded the takings from the gaming machines.
But he left the premised empty-handed when he was told that the machines could not be opened.
Police searched the area with the assistance of the Dog Unit, but were unable to locate him.
He is described as being about 175cm -180cm tall, with a medium to solid build, wearing a face covering and a light-coloured ski jacket.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Blitz snares trucks
IN a blitz involving police from five states, more than 5,000 trucks were inspected on Friday with 2,000 defects issued for a range of offences. The blitz was a direct response to a two-day period last month in which three unrelated heavy vehicle crashes. During the combined operation, 1,752 truck drivers were tested for drugs, with 26 allegedly returning positive drug tests.
