House fire suspicious


Police are appealing for information after this unoccupied Greenacre house was damaged by fire for the third time.

INQUIRIES are continuing after an unoccupied Greenacre house was damaged by fire on Monday morning. Emergency services were called to the two-storey house on Greenacre Road, after the blaze broke out in an attached garage, just after 1am.
The building suffered minor damage; however, the home was sprayed with graffiti. Bankstown detectives are investigating the blaze and canvassed the neighbourhood before appealing for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The fire is being treated as suspicious.

Assault witness attacked
A WOMAN has been injured after a domestic-related incident in Yagoona last week. A 38-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were in a vehicle stopped at a service station at the intersection of Rookwood and Brunker roads, Yagoona just after 3pm last Thursday when he allegedly punched her multiple times in the face. Two passers-by witnessed the altercation. One of the men went to the assistance of the woman, while the other man called police. The man allegedly assaulted one of the men, and got back into the vehicle, before driving away with the woman against her will. Following inquiries, a 38-year-old man was arrested at a home on Bowden Boulevard, Yagoona, where he was arrested. He was charged with detaining a person for advantage, causing actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

Armed robbery at Padstow
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery at a store in Padstow last week. Two men entered a store on Cahors Road, Padstow, armed with knives and threatened an employee about 9.30pm on Wednesday. The offenders ran from the store with cigarettes. No one was injured during the incident. Bankstown police established a crime scene. The offenders have been described as being of slim build, about 170cm tall and aged in their 20s. They were last seen wearing dark coloured clothing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Charged with intimidating
A BANKSTOWN man has been charged with intimidating a person with intend to fear physical harm and armed with intent to commit indictable offence. A woman and her partner were at their home in Myrtle Road Bankstown, when another man living at the house allegedly took a knife and began stabbing the walls and furniture about 3.30pm last Tuesday. The 22-year-old man also allegedly threatened the woman. Police arrived a short time later. Concerned for the welfare of the occupants, police forced entry and saw the man standing in the hallway holding a knife. He was arrested and charged.

Baton seized by police
A LAKEMBA man has been charged with possessing a prohibited weapon without permit after police searched his parked car in Greenacre. About 2am on Thursday January 11 police were patrolling when they spotted the vehicle. Seated in the vehicle was a 49-year-old Lakemba man and a 25-year-old Greenacre man. Police searched both men and the vehicle. Located in the vehicle was an extendable baton, which was seized by police.
